West Bromwich Albion are preparing to make a bid for Amiens striker Moussa Konate, according to The Sun on Sunday (21/07, page 63).

The report claims the Baggies are set to make a bid the region of £5million for the Senegal international's services, after he scored seven goals in 27 Ligue 1 matches last season.

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic is stepping up his side's preparations for the new season, and it appears he has now turned his attentions to Konate after securing the services of both Kenneth Zohore and Semi Ajayi last week.

The 26-year-old would further bolster West Brom's attacking options, with the Hawthorns outfit having lost the services of prolific duo Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle this summer.

In today's FLW Six Pointer, we take a closer look at this possible signing...

Firstly, what is Konate's background?

"Konate was born in Senegal and made his name playing for Swiss club Sion, where he scored 50 goals in 115 appearances across three seasons. He then moved to Amiens in 2017, where he signed a four-year contract.

"The striker has continued his strong goalscoring record in France having scored 20 goals in 60 appearances, while he has also been an important player for his country in recent times and was included in their World Cup squad last summer.

"West Brom have been credited with an interest in Konate previously, so he has been on their radar for some time. It now appears the Baggies could be the club to give him a chance in England, as this does feel like a natural next career step."

Would he be interested in a move to join the Baggies?

"I think Konate will be keen to test himself in England, and the prospect of joining West Brom means he will be joining a well-known club with an accomplished manager.

"Bilic is widely known across Europe and I think one of the reasons West Brom selected him was because of the potential appeal he may have when the club is chasing new signings.

"The Baggies are also very much on the lookout for strikers following Rodriguez and Gayle's departures, so this would be an excellent opportunity for Konate to lead the line and become a fans' favourite at The Hawthorns."

What qualities can he bring to the Hawthorns?

"Konate is not only tall, but he is also very quick which means he could be a solid replacement for Gayle's pace and trickery from last season.

"He also has a clear eye for goal which will be vital for the Baggies next season in the Championship, while is strength and power means he should also have the physicality to cope in the division.

"At 26, Konate is also at an excellent age for a striker and West Brom should be looking to tie him down on a long-term deal as he will only get better."

Where would he fit in at West Brom?

"He could form a good partnership with Zohore up front for the Baggies, as both are proven goal scorers with slightly differing characteristics.

"Zohore could possibly function as more of a target man, while Zonate may be able to use his pace to make runs and get in behind the defenders.

"However, his arrival could spell trouble for Oliver Burke following his return from a loan spell at Celtic. This will now send him further down the pecking order, and Zonate's arrival could eventually lead to Burke being frozen out of the first-team fold."

Would this put an end to any further West Brom interest in Gayle?

"I think this would be safe to assume. It is not yet clear whether Gayle will even be available for transfer this summer, and there will likely be a sizeable fee involved even if he is.

"With the season drawing near, West Brom cannot afford to wait around any longer and they have done the correct thing by pressing forward with transfers at this stage.

"I can see the Baggies having pinpointed Zonate as a suitable option to replace Gayle and I don't think they will pursue any further striker signings after this."

Finally, can you see the move being a success?

"I can see this switch having all the ingredients to be a successful move for both parties.

"Zonate will be keen to test himself in England after scoring goals on the continent, and he has plenty he can offer to a West Brom side in need of attacking firepower.

"Furthermore, the £5million fee means the move is a relatively low risk and, providing the Baggies do not agree to pay him extortionate wages, I think this would be a cost-effective solution to their striker issues."
