Stoke City manager Nathan Jones is ringing the changes at the Bet365 Stadium as he closes in on his sixth new signing of the summer in Stephen Ward, following the arrival of Adam Davies, Liam Lindsay, Jordan Cousins, Nick Powell and Lee Gregory this summer.

Jones will know he needs to freshen up his squad, having failed to drag the Potters into the promotion shake-up last season, following his arrival at the club in January 2019, finishing the season in 16th place.

So what is the verdict on Jones' transfer business so far this summer?

We discuss........

George Dagless

"All of them make sense, to be honest.

"Gregory, for starters, is an attacker that knows the league well and knows how to score goals - whilst he'll also constantly work hard for a Nathan Jones side which is going to be playing at full throttle.

"Lindsay is a top signing. He's ready for this step up and will be the man Stoke can finally rejuvenate their defence around. He's a player they've been crying out for years for really.

"Davies is another one that makes sense. Butland is surely going this summer and in Davies they have an upcoming player that was one of the stars of the EFL season last year.

"Powell will relish playing in a side challenging for promotion next season, too, as he has wanted this moment for some time after doing more than a good job with Wigan.

"Finally, Cousins is the sort of player you need in a side looking to go up. He'll do whatever he is asked to a good standard and has no airs or graces about him.

"Good signings all round."

Ned Holmes

"This summer was always going to be important for Stoke, given that it is Nathan Jones’ first full transfer window at the club and the fact that the Potters have managed to get all of this business done and only paid £2 million in transfer fees is outstanding work.

"Davies is a smart replacement for Jack Butland, who looks set to leave this summer, and enjoyed a great season for the Tykes, notching up 19 clean sheets in 42 League One appearances.

"Liam Lindsay has been linked to numerous clubs this summer and for good reason, he was commanding at the back for Barnsley last season and at the age of 23 has a bright future. If he can transfer last seasons performances into the Championship he should improve Stoke’s defensive unit straight away.

"!Stoke desperately needed more attacking impetus, after scoring the third least goals in the Championship last season–Powell and Gregory should provide exactly that.

"Jones knows Cousins from his time at the Charlton academy and clearly the Potters boss thinks he will be a useful asset in his signature midfield diamond."

Jacob Potter

"They are all excellent signings, who will aid their promotion bid next season.

"Stoke were disappointing last season and I think a number of their players thought they were too good for the Championship, and it backfired as they finished 16th in the league table.

Gregory, Powell and Cousins know the Championship well and know the standard that is required.

"Whereas Davies is a goalkeeper that really impressed me last season for Barnsley as they won promotion. He could be the ideal replacement for Jack Butland, but that all depends on whether he can hit the ground running.

"Lindsay was previously wanted by Aston Villa, which shows you that he’s a player with real quality and was a key player in Barnsley’s promotion last season.

"They are brilliant additions to Nathan Jones’ squad, and I fancy them to win promotion next season."
