There was an encouraging start to pre-season for Leeds United last night as they produced a convincing performance to beat York 5-0.

Leeds are back in action tonight against Guiseley before heading to Australia to continue their 2019/20 preparations.

We saw the bulk of Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad yesterday, with Jack Harrison, Kemar Roofe, Pablo Hernandez and Adam Forshaw all on the scoresheet, and at Nethermoor Park tonight, the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Mateusz Klich and Helder Costa will be on show.

Despite the loss of Pontus Jansson to Brentford, Bielsa’s squad is still looking strong at this current stage of the summer, which has led to us taking a look at the best XI that could be turned to…

In goal, we’ve opted for Kiko Casilla over Bailey Peacock-Farrell. There is little between the two, but given Casilla’s pedigree, we can’t see him sitting on the bench.

After a convincing win last night in the 3-3-1-3 system, we’ve opted for the same, with Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi joined at centre-back by Kalvin Phillips – who is, of course, a man in demand, with Aston Villa chasing his signature.

In the full-back positions we feel that Luke Ayling and Barry Douglas are Leeds’ strongest pair. They started last season as Leeds’ first choice, with Bielsa’s side blowing away a lot of the Championship pre-Christmas.

Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernandez are the creative cogs in the centre of the pitch in our side, whilst an exciting front three is ahead of them.

Helder Costa – Leeds’ marquee signing of the summer so far – takes up a slot on the right, whilst we’ve opted for 15-goal Kemar Roofe through the middle ahead of Patrick Bamford.

From the left we’ve given Jack Harrison the nod over last season's favourite, Ezgjan Alioski. The Manchester City loanee was lively in last night’s win over York, scoring a brace and laying on an assist. For now, he is ahead in the pecking order, but the versatile Alioski could have an impact on pre-season, with it looking like he’ll be involved later against Guiseley.
