Leeds United teenager Alfie McCalmont has revealed a throwback image of himself and Whites teammate Robbie Gotts when they played for one of the club's youth sides.

The duo are both products of the Whites academy system and are now on the fringes of Marcelo Bielsa's first-team squad.

Gotts has been earmarked as the next player to break into the senior squad by both Bielsa and ex-player Noel Whelan.

The versatile defender is yet to make his senior debut for Leeds but has been named in matchday squads in both the 2018/19 and 2019/20 campaigns.

McCalmont made his debut for first-team in the EFL Cup in August–coming off the bench in the 3-0 win against Salford City.

The 19-year-old started the Second Round tie against Stoke City but was substituted at half time with the Whites 2-0 down.

Both McCalmont and Gotts were important players for Carlos Corberan's U23s last season and played vital roles in helping them with the Professional Development League North title.

It appears they have been teammates for much longer than that, however, as McCalmont has posted a throwback image of the duo that seems to show them playing for one of Leeds' youth sides.

Yesterday was Gotts' 20th birthday and McCalmont posted the image to his story along with the caption "happy birthday brother".

The Verdict

Gotts and McCalmont look like two of the players that may be the next to break through into the Whites' first team.

The post by McCalmont suggests that the two have a close relationship and they will likely be hoping to feature for the senior side together at some point.

You feel as if that could come under Bielsa, as the Argentine coach has shown he is willing to put faith in young players–as evidenced by the opportunities given to the likes of Jamie Shackleton and Leif Davis.
