Huddersfield Town head coach Carlos Corberan has confirmed that Alex Vallejo has suffered a setback in his road to recovery.

The midfielder sustained a knee injury earlier this season and has not featured for the Terriers since scoring in their 3-2 victory over Blackburn Rovers in September.

Whereas Vallejo was hoping to be fit enough to participate in Saturday's showdown with West Bromwich Albion, he has now picked up another issue and thus is set to miss this particular clash.

In Vallejo's absence, Corberan may opt to turn to Lewis O'Brien and Scott High for inspiration at the John Smith's Stadium tomorrow as this particular duo featured for Huddersfield in their recent meeting with Cardiff City.

Having suffered a 2-1 defeat to Steve Morison's side in the aforementioned fixture, it will be intriguing to see whether Huddersfield are able to deliver a response to this setback in their meeting with the Baggies.

Ahead of this game, Corberan has shared an update on Vallejo's injury.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live about the midfielder, the 38-year-old said: "There's been a delay in Alex Vallejo's injury.

"The last scan we did with him another problem appeared with him and he's not going to be available for the next game."

The Verdict

This is unquestionably a blow for Vallejo who has struggled to establish himself as a key player for Huddersfield since joining the club last year.

After making 17 appearances for the club during the previous campaign, the midfielder would have been hoping to earn Corberan's trust by delivering the goods on a consistent basis this season.

However, Vallejo has only featured on six occasions in all competitions as he has struggled to maintain his fitness.

Currently averaging an underwhelming WhoScored match rating of 6.38 in the Championship, the Spaniard will need to step up to the mark when he is fit enough to make his return to senior action.

Providing that Huddersfield are able to seal victory in Vallejo's absence this weekend, they could use the confidence gained from this result to climb the second-tier standings in the coming weeks.
