Huddersfield Town swooped to sign Alex Vallejo over the course of the weekend.

The midfielder was a free agent, which allowed the Terriers to pick up the service of Vallejo after the closure of the transfer window on Friday evening.

Vallejo, 28, has signed a contract with Huddersfield that will run until the end of the season, with the Spaniard arriving to bolster Carlos Corberan's midfield options moving forwards.

Quiz: Do Huddersfield Town and Leeds United have these 10 things in common?

Taking to Twitter, the midfielder has issued a passionate message upon arrival:

Vallejo arrives from Spain without La Liga experience, but he has made 79 appearances in the Spanish equivalent to the EFL as well as making appearances in the Copa Del Rey during spells with Mallorca, Cordoba and Fuenlabrada.

He links up with a Huddersfield side finding their feet in the Championship now under Corberan.

After back-to-back defeats in the opening two games, Huddersfield have posted seven points on the board since.

Included in that run was Saturday's 2-1 win over a strong Swansea City side, which moved Huddersfield into a comfortable mid-table position. The Terriers are now within two points of the top-six ahead of tomorrow evening's meeting with Derby County.

The Verdict

It remains to be seen what kind of signing Vallejo is. Town are blessed with quite a bit of depth in midfield, with their squad looking thin in attack.

That's made it something of a surprise that Town have recruited a player of his skillset. However, Corberan clearly sees something in the 28-year-old, which is important.

Vallejo is clearly happy to be at Huddersfield given his tweet and Corberan will be looking to add him to his matchday squad at the earliest of opportunities.
