With four games remaining in the Sky Bet Championship season, MK Dons still have a slight opportunity of surviving the dreaded drop to League One.

And they have striker Alex Revell to thank, but not because of his goalscoring exploits.

With ten minutes remaining and the tie with Preston North End locked at 1-1, MK Dons goalkeeper Cody Cropper¬†was dismissed for bringing down Eoin Doyle in the area. As the side had already used their three substitutes, they called upon Revell to don the gloves for Joe Garner’s penalty.

Revell guessed correctly and saved Garner’s penalty to keep the score level. He then went on to make another late save from the Preston striker as MK Dons stole a valuable point, in turn ending a dreadful run of four straight defeats.

The Dons are still likely to go down, but Revell has kept them nine points away from safety and four games to play. It gives them hope. It keeps their chances of survival alive.

The side from Northamptonshire have Sheffield Wednesday, Brentford, Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest still to play as they look to avoid the drop.

And they can still do it thanks to Revell’s heroics between the sticks.
