Preston North End picked up an important three points at the weekend, as they narrowly beat Huddersfield Town 2-1 at the John Smith's Stadium.

Alan Browne was the hero for Alex Neil's side, as the Irishman netted a quick-fire brace to see North End cancel out Fraizer Campbell's early opener on the day.

Browne has made nine appearances in all competitions for Preston so far this season, as they currently sit 12th in the Championship table after seven matches this term.

He is out-of-contract in the summer of 2021 though, and his impressive recent showings certainly won't have gone unnoticed from other clubs.

Speaking in a recent interview (quotes sourced from Lancashire Live), Preston boss Alex Neil issued high-praise for Browne's contribution since he's been with the club, before stating that he is keen to get the midfielder tied down to a new contract in the near future.

"Alan has been an absolute stalwart for me ever since I've been at this club. He's been a key factor in terms of what we've done.

"I've always relied on Alan within my team because he's always done great for me - he's a proper lad who will go and give all he's got.

"Alan will be my club captain there's no questions about that, I just want to try and get his contract sorted so he stays and can be my club captain for a long period of time."

Browne and his Preston team-mates are set to return to action on Wednesday, when they host Millwall at Deepdale, in what is likely to be a closely-fought battle between the two sides.

The Verdict:

I'm not surprised by this at all.

Browne has been brilliant for Preston North End over the years, and Alex Neil is evidently keen to have his future resolved at the earliest of opportunities.

He's out-of-contract at the end of this year's campaign, and you would imagine that his impressive recent showings won't have gone unnoticed by other clubs.

Therefore, it's important that the Lilywhites get this agreement in place in the near future, as he's a player they need to be building their team around.
