Preston North End fans were excited for the new season until they were recently hit with Simon Grayson's sudden departure.

Simon Grayson was building an exciting squad at Deepdale after guiding Preston North End to the brink of play-off contention last year on a shoestring budget.

He was, however, tempted away by the vacant job at Sunderland and Preston have acted quickly to bring in former Norwich City manager Alex Neil.

Grayson has already brought four players to the club for him: prolific Irish striker Sean Maguire, promising Manchester United midfielder Josh Harrop, Cork City left-back Kevin O'Connor and Norwich goalkeeper Declan Rudd.

There is more transfer work to do, though, at Preston and they are looking for a goal scoring forward in particular.

All of their players contribute and another goal hungry striker would really boost the club and possibly propel them into the play-offs.

Alex Neil could look to raid his former club Norwich City to land Steven Naismith.

Norwich are quite keen to get rid of the Scotland international because they need to sell to generate funds and they are prepared to let him go on the cheap.

The 30-year-old would bring a wealth of experience to the Lancashire based club if he joins, having played for Kilmarnock, Rangers and Everton before his stint with Norwich.

Naismith is comfortable playing as a winger, as a central attacking midfielder or as a centre-forward and this versatility makes him a vital asset in Alex Neil's options.

If Preston can secure a cheap deal to bring Steven Naismith to Deepdale, they must pursue this deal as a matter of priority.
