Alex Neil delivers honest opinion on Pontus Jansson, this will divide Leeds United supporters

Alex Neil has questioned the injury picked up by Pontus Jansson in last night’s clash between Preston North End and Leeds United.

Jansson was forced from the field with a head injury moments after Preston had taken the lead at Deepdale, with the defender laid out on the floor as Sean Maguire headed past Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Leeds thought that play should’ve been stopped due to Jansson’s problem, but the referee allowed Preston to play on, with Maguire unmarked to head Neil’s side into the lead.

Neil has now had his say on the incident, questioning the severity of Jansson’s injury. The Preston boss told Lee Sobot from the Yorkshire Evening Post:

It looked like it could be a positive evening for Paul Heckingbottom’s Leeds, who had led through Kemar Roofe’s early goal at Deepdale.

Despite leading at half-time, Leeds started the second-half defending, with Vurnon Anita conceding a penalty shortly after the break, which Paul Gallagher converted.

Then just three minutes later came the game’s controversial moment, when Maguire headed Preston into the lead, whilst Jansson was down holding his head.

Leeds pushed for an equaliser, but Alan Browne put the game beyond them in the 82nd minute, heading past Peacock-Farrell to secure a 3-1 victory.

The Verdict

Neil’s view on Jansson is a strong one, with the Preston boss indicating that he believes the 27-year-old was cheating last night.

Jansson goes down holding his head in the middle of the penalty area, which allows Maguire to ghost in and head beyond a stranded Peacock-Farrell.

It’s a bold claim from Neil that Jansson was feigning injury and you’d expect a response from the Swedish defender or Leeds.
