After a solitary season in the Premier League, Norwich came crashing back down to the Championship and were one of the pre-season favourites for promotion.

The Canaries got off to a blistering start and they sat top of the pile early on but they have failed to keep that momentum up as we approach the half way point of the season.

Norwich have dropped to ninth in the league, just two points outside the Play-Offs, losing six of their last seven, a run which has seen Alex Neil’s future come under scrutiny.

Norwich’s recruitment in the summer wasn’t great and they have largely stuck with the team that they came down with, barring the additions of Nelson Oliveira and Alex Pritchard.

January presents Neil with a good opportunity to strengthen ahead of the promotion run in.

Here, FLW's Chris Wilson will look at TWO players who Neil cannot miss out on in January…

David Nugent

Nugent has fell well out of favour at Middlesbrough since the arrival of Alvaro Negredo in the summer, so he could seek a move away in January for regular football.

Nugent is widely regarded as one of the Championship’s deadliest strikers and he could definitely score the goals that Norwich need to go up.

With Oliveira and Jerome not scoring regularly, The Canaries need a regular goal scorer and Nugent could be that man.

Nahki Wells

Wells has been Huddersfield’s ‘go to man’ for goals in the past couple of seasons, but so far this season, it hasn’t quite worked out for him.

However, his record in previous years should be enough for Norwich to take a chance on him.

Wells would provide Norwich with blistering pace in behind and a huge goal scoring threat.

If Norwich are to break back into the Play-Off places, they need a regular goal scorer, having failed to score in three of their last seven games.
