Barnsley take on Fleetwood Town tomorrow in League One, with the Tykes looking to get over the line in the race for promotion back to the Championship this season.

It’s been a tough couple of weeks for Daniel Stendel’s men, who have dropped five points in their last two games, and Barnsley will be looking for inspiration heading into the final five fixtures of the season.

Alex Mowatt is someone Stendel could turn to, with the midfielder in fine form this season, earning a place in the League One Team of the Season in the process.

Tomorrow, the 24-year-old will be looking to add to his six league goals this season against a familiar face, with Alex Cairns set to be in goal for Fleetwood.

The pair both progressed through Leeds United’s academy before heading away from Elland Road.

Cairns has been touching on his relationship with Mowatt in the build-up to tomorrow’s game, discussing the midfielder with Fleetwood’s official media.

And, that’s sparked a reaction from Mowatt, who took to Twitter to joke that he didn’t even know who the goalkeeper was:

Whilst Barnsley still have promotion in their sights, it looks like Fleetwood are heading for another year in League One after a steady first season under Joey Barton.

The Verdict

Mowatt is stitching his mate up here and might even be trying to get inside his head.

Of course, this is all light-hearted and the pair will share a joke about it in private.

In terms of tomorrow, Cairns would surely love nothing more than frustrating his former teammate.
