Barnsley ace Alex Mowatt has sent a message to the club's former head coach Daniel Stendel on social media, after it was confirmed that the German has left Oakwell.

Barnsley announced on their club website this morning that they have separated from Stendel with immediate effect, with under 18's coach Adam Murray becoming caretaker manager, following the team's shaky start to the Championship season.

Mowatt was one of the standout players for Barnsley last season and played every game in League One, scoring eight goals and providing six assists.

The 24-year-old has sent a message to Stendel on social media, admitting that he is disappointed to see him leave the club and wishing him all the best for the future.

Stendel took charge at Oakwell last summer and the German was able to guide Barnsley to automatic promotion from League One in his first season in English football, as they finished second behind Luton Town.

However, after a busy summer transfer window, Barnsley have made a poor start to life back in the Championship and are currently without a win in their last ten league matches - since their victory over Fulham on the opening day of the season.

Barnsley were thumped 5-1 by Preston North End at the weekend and are now inside the relegation zone, with the worst defensive record in the division.

The Verdict

I think this is a real shame for Barnsley. Stendel is a good manager and he did a fantastic job with Barnsley last season, guiding the club to automatic promotion in his first season in English football.

With that said, the results this season have not been good enough and the club obviously feel that he is no longer the right man to take the club forward.

Mowatt obviously had a good relationship with Stendel and I'm sure the German will appreciate this message from the player.
