Barnsley midfielder Alex Mowatt has revealed that his top moment with the club came when securing promotion back into the Championship last season.

The former Leeds man made the move to Oakwell in January 2017, but it wasn’t until Barnsley were a League One side that Mowatt began making a significant impact in South Yorkshire.

Last season, Mowatt struck eight goals and assisted a further six, helping Barnsley to automatic promotion back into the Championship.

Taking to Instagram recently, Mowatt revealed that the promotion back into the Championship was his standout moment in a Barnsley shirt…

Back in the Championship, Barnsley have gone from Daniel Stendel to Gerhard Struber in the dugout, looking to avoid an instant return to the third-tier.

Currently, the Tykes are rooted to the foot of the table, seven points adrift of safety with nine games of the season to play – should the season be able to resume.

For Mowatt individually, the 25-year-old has scored three goals back in the Championship and registered a further seven assists, captaining the Tykes on occasion.

The Verdict

It’s easy to see why Mowatt’s favourite moment in a Barnsley shirt was promotion, with it offering the midfielder a pathway back into the Championship.

As things stand, it’s a big achievement, but bigger than that would be helping to establish the club back in the Championship.

Maybe in five years, that’ll take this particular title.
