Alex Mowatt will be hoping he can finish this year's campaign strongly with relegation-threatened Barnsley in the Championship.

The Tykes are currently sat bottom of the second tier standings, and are seven points adrift of safety with just nine matches left this season.

Mowatt has been a rare bright spark for Gerhard Struber's side though, with three goals and seven assists in his 37 appearances in all competitions this term.

The midfielder had previously been on the books with Yorkshire rivals Leeds United before signing for the Tykes in January 2017.

Mowatt made 125 appearances for Leeds during a tricky period in the club's history, as they floated around mid-table in the second tier.

Speaking in a Q&A session on his official Instagram account, Mowatt revealed that Ross McCormack was the best Leeds United player he played alongside in his time with the club.

McCormack left Leeds in the summer of 2014 in favour of a move to Fulham for a fee believed to be in the region of £11m at the time.

The Scotsman is currently without a club after his spell with Australian side Central Coast Mariners came to and end. McCormack also spent a brief spell out on loan with Scottish side Motherwell.

The Verdict:

I'm not surprised in the slightest to hear this.

McCormack was a brilliant player for Leeds when he was at the top of his game. He could change the course of a game with relative ease at times.

Mowatt didn't fulfil his full potential with the Whites, but clearly looks back on his time with Leeds with great fondness, which is good to see.

The midfielder will be hoping he can finish this year's campaign strongly, as Barnsley look to pull of a miraculous survival in the Championship.
