Barnsley and Sunderland took a point each from the big game in League One last night, with the Tykes unfortunate not to take all three.

Daniel Stendel's men knew that a victory would give them a real cushion over the Black Cats in the race for automatic promotion but they had to settle for a draw.

That extends their unbeaten run, with the side last tasting defeat in the league back in December, and midfielder Alex Mowatt issued a positive message on his Instagram following the game.

As he points out, Barnsley are back in action in two days time when they make the short trip to take on Doncaster in another big game at the top of League One.

Grant McCann's side currently occupy the final play-off place although they had into the game out of form, having not won in five league fixtures.

A win for the visitors would take them to within two points of leaders Luton.

The Verdict

There was a lot of hype around last night's game and it didn't really live up to expectations, although Barnsley were trying to force the issue.

As Mowatt says, they perhaps deserved more but that's been and gone, with the focus now on Doncaster.

It promises to be another tough test for Stendel's side who will be desperate for three points to widen the gap to Sunderland in third.
