Alex Bass sends two-word message after sealing Sunderland transfer agreement

Published

Alex Bass has taken to Twitter to react to confirmation of his permanent move from Portsmouth to Sunderland.

It was announced on Tuesday night that Bass had completed a permanent move to the Black Cats as they prepare for their return to the Championship, arriving from Pompey for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with Sunderland, securing his future at the Stadium of Light until the end of the 2024/25 season, with the club holding the option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.

Are these 20 statements about former Sunderland players true or false?

Grant Leadbitter retired from playing after leaving Sunderland in 2021?

Having previously spent the whole of his senior career at Portsmouth, with loan spells at Torquay, Southend and Bradford, this move will give Bass the chance to play at Championship level for the first time.

Now it seems as though that is an opportunity that the goalkeeper is certainly relishing, with less than a week to go until the new campaign begins.

Posting on Twitter following confirmation of his move to Sunderland, Bass simply wrote: “New challenge”.

Bass has become Sunderland’s fourth senior signing of the summer, following Dan Ballard, Jack Clarke and Aji Alese in making a permanent move to the Stadium of Light.

The Verdict

This move to Sunderland for Bass does seem to make the club’s goalkeeping situation an interesting one.

There is no doubt that Sunderland needed a new goalkeeper this summer, with only Anthony Patterson on their books in that position.

But like Bass, Patterson is still a young ‘keeper who is only just making the step up to the Championship for the first time in his career this season.

As a result, it may be argued that Sunderland are taking something of a risk with their options in such a key position in what is a hugely important season for the club, and it will be interesting to see if it pays off.
