Relegation from the Premier League is continuing to take its toll this far into Swansea City’s first season away from the top flight.

Graham Potter’s men have had to deal with a cut in their player kitty as the Welsh club look to cut their cloth accordingly to avoid any such financial penalties and struggles off the pitch.

The cut to the transfer pot is not the only area within the club that is getting stripped back.

ITV first reported that a letter has been issued to all non-playing staff, warning them of possible redundancies.

The letter was sent to every member of staff that is not immediately on the playing side of the fence, and it informed the workers the club is ‘is continuing to see its income reducing’ after their relegation last season.

Voluntary redundancy is on offer for any of the club’s staff if they wish to take it, as well as calling for suggestions to avoid significant lay-offs.

The letter was issued just days after Trevor Birch was confirmed as Swansea’s new chairman after the departure of Huw Jenkins.

The verdict

This is really bad news for Swansea – and it could make their task of getting back to the Premier League next year, or for seasons to come even more difficult.

Relegation from the top tier has hit them hard and these cost-cutting exercises will not stop with staff redundancies or the possibility of them.

It’s going to be tough few years for the Swans – their fans better buckle up and get ready for what looks to be a rather bumpy ride ahead.
