Alan Nixon has hinted that the door is open for Leeds United to move for Sean McGurk this summer.

Reports from The Sun in January reported that Marcelo Bielsa's side had made a formal offer for the Wigan Athletic starlet as they looked to add the exciting talent to the squad with the future in mind.

Rangers were also said to be keen but with no offer accepted the 17-year-old stayed at the DW Stadium for the rest of the campaign, however now it seems that his future is set to be decided.

McGurk is approaching the end of his contract with the Latics and with no agreement yet reached it seems that he could be set to move on in the coming weeks.

While he hasn't yet featured for the first team, McGurk looks set for a very bright future and according to Nixon, it seems that Leeds could be firmly in the mix to snap him up once his contract with the League One club expires.

Taking to Twitter, Nixon said: "Leeds have wanted him for some time and now they can sign him..."

The verdict

This is going to be an interesting one to keep an eye on.

Sean McGurk is a very talented young player, and while he hasn't yet made a senior appearance, it seems that he's set for a bright future.

Leeds United are building a really strong pipeline of young talent for the under-23s and the Wigan Athletic man would be a worthy addition to the club's development side.

The future looks bright for Leeds and they'll be hoping that that will be enough to tempt the youngster to the club.
