Leeds United have recently been linked with a move for Rangers defender Connor Goldson according to a report from Football Insider.

The report claims that Marcelo Bielsa's side are rivalling the likes of West Ham and West Brom to the potential signing of the former Brighton and Hove Albion defender, although it remains to be seen as to which club is leading the race to land his signature.

A move to Elland Road could be a tempting proposition for Goldson in the summer, with Leeds currently sat top of the Championship table, and seven points clear of third-placed Fulham with just nine matches remaining in this year's campaign.

Rangers have recently had their season concluded early due to off-the-field events, with arch rivals Celtic being awarded another league title.

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, former Rangers full-back Alan Hutton issued his thoughts on Leeds' rumoured interest in signing Goldson, and labelled him as 'brilliant'.

"I think on the whole he’s been brilliant, he’s been a stand-up leader, he’s filled in for James Tavernier as captain if he wasn’t available.

"He made a couple of mistakes towards the end of the season – it happens, we’re not all perfect, we make mistakes – but it’s how you bounce back from that."

Hutton went on to admit that he isn't surprised to hear that Goldson has been linked with a move elsewhere heading into the summer, and felt that he has made a positive impact with Steven Gerrard's side.

"On the whole he’s been a very good signing for Rangers so it doesn’t surprise me big teams like Leeds are looking at him.

“He’s obviously had good appearances in Europe that a lot of clubs will be watching. I don’t think it’s just Leeds that are interested, I’ve heard rumours of other clubs."

The Verdict:

I have to agree with Hutton here.

I think Goldson has been brilliant this season, and I'm not surprised to see him attracting interest from other clubs heading into the summer transfer window.

Leeds United could certainly benefit from signing additional strength in depth in their defence next season, as they prepare for potential life back in the Premier League.

Goldson would be more than capable of stepping up to football in the top-flight in my opinion, and he'll feel as though he has unfinished business there, after leaving Brighton and Hove Albion earlier in his career.
