Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has been extremely busy at The City Ground following his January arrival, utilising the winter transfer window to completely overhaul the squad he inherited from Mark Warburton.

A plethora of new faces arrived before the transfer deadline, but the Spaniard has not stopped there, utilising the free agent market to add Spanish defender Juan Rafael Fuentes and goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino to his options.

Greek international Kapinos is now the third goalkeeper on the books at the Nottinghamshire-based side, and Karanka has spoken about the race for the number one jersey, saying he has an ‘open mind’ about who will start between the sticks.

“We will have a lot of strength in depth in that position, but that is good,” Karanka told The Nottingham Post.

“Today I have an open mind about who the number one will be.”

The Verdict

Karanka has three quality goalkeeping options on the books at The City Ground, with this season’s regular number one Jordan Smith being complimented by the additions of Costel Pantilimon and now Kapinos.

All three have a right to stake a claim for the starting spot, and it truly will be an epic battle for the number one jersey between three very good goalkeepers.

Pantilimon will leave in the summer when his loan deal expires, but Kapinos and Smith have it all to fight for ahead of next season.
