Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has admitted that he feels "angry and embarrassed" after his side's 3-2 defeat to Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, the Nottingham Post reports.

The Reds named ten changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Leeds United last Saturday afternoon, but were unable to reach the quarter-final of the competition for the first time in over 20 years, after a hugely disappointing night at the Pirelli Stadium.

And after the game, Karanka vented his anger out, saying that the League One side "wanted it more" than the Reds.

"I am very angry, because I feel embarrassed and I feel really bad, because a team that is in League One and a team that has played four games in the last ten days, with the same players, were much better than us,” said Karanka.

“They were much stronger than us, they wanted every ball more than us and that is it – it is down to the intensity and the hunger you have, they were much more hungry than us", the Spaniard added.

Forest will look to get back to winning ways in the league on Saturday afternoon, in a crunch match against Sheffield United at the City Ground.

The Verdict

Forest were absolutely dismal on Tuesday night, and that was hugely down to Karanka's team selection.

Sure, the players that Forest played still should have eased past Burton, but the lack of team cohesion was evident throughout and that was arguably their biggest downfall - they owe the fans a performance this weekend.
