Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has insisted that the club is not actively looking to sell Ben Brereton.

According to The Nottingham Post, Brereton is not for sale and has a part to play in Karanka's squad, despite attracting interest from other clubs.

Nottingham Forest turned down a £5m bid from Blackburn Rovers for the England youth international and Karanka believes he is a key part of the squad.

The 19-year-old is behind Lewis Grabban, Hillal Soudani and Daryl Murphy in the pecking order at The City Ground at the moment.

But Karanka denied that Brereton was for sale, saying: “No, we are not in a rush to sell him. I like the player, I like his character and he has a bright future in front of him. I have him in the squad and that is the main thing for me.

"He played last season and he was an important part of the team last season. This season, with his age, he will still have his games here. The club knows that I know how good Ben is."

The Verdict

I think it would be foolish to sell Brereton now.

The fans did get on his back at times but it was premature to thrust him into a senior striker role last season and he was not ready for it.

It is easy to forget he is still a teenager; he has a lot of potential and he will come good.
