Aitor Karanka refused to comment on any speculation linking Birmingham City with a surprise move for Alexandre Pato.
Calciomercato have recently reported that Blues are among a host of sides interested in signing Pato, who is available to sign on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old – who scored 10 goals in 27 caps for Brazil – is mostly known for his spell with AC Milan, scoring 63 goals in 150 appearances for the Serie A side.

Having been recently let go by Sao Paolo, Pato is now available to sign on a free transfer, with Birmingham, Genoa, Spezia and Monza being credited with an interest in the striker.
Aitor Karanka, though, remained tight-lipped on any speculation linking Pato with a shock move to St. Andrew’s.
Speaking after his side’s home win over Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night, via Birmingham Live, Karanka said: “Pato, Cristiano Ronaldo, I don’t know anything. I don’t hear anything.
“But basically today to speak about other players who are not our players is a lack of respect today is our squad.”
Blues have struggled for goals this season, and had only scored three goals in seven league outings before last night’s 2-1 victory.
I think it would be a risk to sign Pato to be quite honest.
Of course, he used to be one of the best strikers in world football in 2010 and 2011, but I don’t think he’s the same player anymore and he’s fell out of form.
He would be on a lot of money too, so can a club like Birmingham afford to pay his wages? Is it a sustainable move? I don’t think particularly think so.
