Millwall striker Aiden O'Brien has insisted that the team must remain focused on their Championship relegation battle, after the weekend's FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Brighton.

The Lions exited the FA Cup in dramatic fashion at the weekend, losing on penalties after a hard-fought 2-2 draw at The Den.

Second-half strikes from Alex Pearce and O'Brien had put Neil Harris' side in control, but their Premier League opponents fought back with two late goals to send the match to extra-time and would eventually triumph in the shootout.

However, the Championship club tweeted this video earlier today, with O'Brien insisting that despite the weekend's result, the players must retain their focus.

Millwall are currently 20th in the Championship table, just one point above the relegation zone with nine matches left to play and face a serious battle to stay in the division.

The verdict

O'Brien is absolutely right. Millwall were great in the FA Cup on Sunday and were seriously unlucky to miss out on the semi-finals, but the players cannot afford to let this distract them from the bigger picture.

The Lions are in a serious relegation battle and with so many other teams also involved, the players face a real fight to stay in the division.

The good news for Millwall fans is that due to their side's involvement in the FA Cup at the weekend, they now have a game in hand on their relegation rivals and this could prove crucial come the end of the season.

O'Brien mentioned in the video that the Lions' home form will be key to their chances of Championship survival and he is spot on here as well.

Millwall are without a win in their last five Championship matches at The Den and this form has to improve if they are to stay in the division.

Fans of the Championship club will be hoping the players can produce more performances like they did against Birmingham in their previous league game when the season resumes following the international break.
