West Bromwich Albion defender Ahmed Hegazi has posted a message on social media welcoming goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi to the club.

The veteran shot-stopper has spent the past week training with the club and has signed a deal that will keep him at the Hawthorns until the end of the season.

Al-Habsi is a goalkeeper that most West Brom fans will be familiar with, having spent most of his career in England, playing for the likes of Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic and Reading.

The 37-year-old has spent the past two seasons playing in Saudi Arabia for Al Hilal, but was keen to finish his career in England.

West Brom defender Hegazi has welcomed the goalkeeper to the club with a post on his personal

Hegazi was an important player for West Brom in the Championship last season, but has missed the start of the new campaign after undergoing surgery on a long-term ankle injury in the summer.

West Brom are unbeaten in the Championship so far this season, but are without a win in their last two matches, after back-to-back draws against Reading and Derby County.

The Verdict

I think Al-Habsi will turn out to be a good signing for West Brom. He's a very good goalkeeper and he's got plenty of experience in the Championship.

Even if doesn't play that many games, he is still a big personality and it's important to have those kind of characters in a dressing room.

Sam Johnstone is likely to remain the first-choice goalkeeper at the Hawthorns this season, but Al-Habsi is a very good back-up option and his arrival at the club will increase competition within the squad.

With Al-Habsi behind him, Johnstone will know that he'll have to produce consistently good performances to keep his place in the side and that should make him a better player.
