The Berkshire club, who spent £2.5m on the striker for a season-long loan, have been criticised by the agent who believes the Championship club overpaid for the Czech Republic international.

And despite the fact that Vydra has had two successful loan periods with Watford in the Sky Bet Championship, Vydra's agent stands firm in his belief that the deal agreed was excessive.

The 23-year-old striker found the net 36 times for Watford and has proven himself to be a top quality Championship striker.

However, after falling out of Watford's Premier League plans, the striker was made available for loan at the end of the summer resulting in significant interest for his services.

Reading won the race to sign the striker on loan but are paying all of his wages alongside the hefty loan fee included in the deal. Fans of the club may now be worried that too much money is being spent on one asset.

But there's no doubt that the striker is a great addition to a Reading side striving to find their feet and push for promotion in the Sky Bet Championship.

Vydra's agent recognises this, but speaking to about the deal, he enforced his shock at the finances involved.

He said to the Watford Observer: "To pay more than £2 million – £2.5 million with bonuses, in my eyes, is too much."

And commenting on the speculation surrounding the move, including a potential move to current table-toppers Brighton and Hove Albion, Chovanec said: "I visited Brighton before the window closed. I met Paul Winstanley [head of recruitment]. We had a very nice discussion, a very good discussion.

“I was very surprised by the facilities and had a very good impression from what I saw there and from the meeting as well.

“I spoke also with the manager. He explained everything. He was a very kind man and I had a very good impression."

But the move to Brighton wasn't to be, as the talismanic striker made the move to Reading in a move that excited their fans.
