Bradford City manager David Hopkin has broken his silence by apologising to the fans after his side were thumped 4-0 by Gillingham at Priestfield on Saturday, report the club's official website

Hopkin had refused to carry out his post-match media duties immediately after the match but today released a statement through the club.

"There are simply no words to describe the way in which we collapsed in the second half," Hopkin said.

“It was unforgivable and wholly unacceptable.

"I want to take this opportunity to apologise to the supporters who made the long journey to Gillingham and spent hard-earned money to endure what was served up."

The result left the Bantams bottom of the third division with 16 games now played and are now four points adrift of safety.

Hopkin has now lost eight of the ten games he has taken charge of for the club this season since moving south of the border at the start of September.

With five defeats in a row leaving them facing a surprise relegation after flirting with promotion in recent seasons, the pressure is growing both on Hopkin and the Bradford board.

The verdict

This is a very worrying run of form from the Bantams.

The club appears to be in complete disarray and co-chairmen Edin Rahic and Stefan Rupp need to take a huge portion of the blame for the way they have handled big decisions both this season and last.
