With just over a week to go until the January transfer window slams shut, Martin O'Neill will undoubtedly be looking to improve his squad ahead of the business end of the campaign.

The former Republic of Ireland manager has already got his feet right under the table at the City Ground, and has wasted no time in strengthening his squad, bringing in Leicester City defender Yohan Benalouane as well as being linked with another Leicester player in Andy King.

But a rather disappointing 1-0 defeat to promotion rivals Bristol City last week only highlighted that there is still a real need for further wheeling and dealing, if the Reds are to clinch a play-off spot come the end of the season.

As part of the O'Neill January overhaul, winger Gil Dias has recently departed the City Ground, ending his loan spell from Monaco to join Greek side Olympiacos.

The City Ground faithful will be divided after the Portuguese winger's departure, with the club losing a player who has endured a difficult time in the East Midlands.

There will be some who feel like the 22-year-old deserved more of a chance at the club.

The winger looked mightily impressive in pre-season, scoring a majestic goal against AFC Bournemouth.

But Dias only started 10 times in the Championship for Forest, and was in and out of the team for the majority of the season, falling behind Matty Cash in the pecking order under Aitor Karanka.

However on the face of it, Forest fans will be delighted that the winger has now departed the club, as there is now potentially room for another signing or two in the final third of the pitch.

Dias really failed to make an impact at the City Ground, and really didn't display the quality he showed in pre-season.

A foul throw-in in the dying embers of the game against Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup, as Forest were looking for a late equaliser, really summed up his time at the club.

This of course now means that O'Neill could look to strengthen his attacking options following the departure of Dias - Forest have already been linked with James McClean from Stoke City, and there is definitely reason to be excited over the next few weeks, with the transfer deadline looming ever closer.
