Tensions are running high at Nottingham Forest, with the club's play-off hopes severely in doubt after yet another disappointing weekend.

The City Ground faithful are quickly losing patience with Martin O'Neill after a string of below-par performances, with fans venting their frustrations last week despite staging a late comeback to defeat Swansea City.

But after a 2-1 defeat to Rotherham United at the weekend, more and more fans are continuing to lose patience with the Irishman, whose team selections and tactical choices have left to be a lot desired since he arrived at the club.

The midfield duo of Ben Watson and Jack Colback flattered to deceive at the weekend, and his decision to make a like-for-like substitution when replacing Pele for Watson certainly raised eyebrows and had plenty talking.

With Forest chasing the game for the large part, club-record signing Joao Carvalho continued to sit on the bench, and finally came on with just 15 minutes left to play in Yorkshire.

The Portuguese playmaker has become a bit-part player under O'Neill, making just one league start for the Reds since the start of February. For the money that they paid for him in the summer, that just isn't good enough.

You have got to feel for Carvalho in some ways - the 22-year old played his best football under Karanka and was showing signs of a player who had finally found his feet in England, scoring and assisting plenty of goals under the Spaniard.

But despite splashing out £13.2million for his services in the summer, his future at the City Ground could well come to an end in the space of the next few months, and who would blame him in all honesty?

Whether it's a move back home to Portugal or to another side in England, Forest fans will be praying that it doesn't turn out to be a case of "the one that got away"...
