Orjan Nyland is currently on the shelf with an Achilles injury and will miss the rest of the season.

But having recently visited a surgeon, it was good news that the goalkeeper hinted at on his Instagram story.

Despite missing the season, he was out of form and favour when Lovre Kalinic was signed to replace him.

The good news will certainly make the 28-year-old buoyant, but it will make him determined to get back fit and back in competition with the Croatian international.

Kalinic has not pulled up any trees since his arrival at Villa Park, and Nyland must be chomping at the bit for it to be the summer in order to be in competition with him once again.

He made 23 appearances before the injury and being left out of the team.

Now is the time for him to refocus and use the prospect of improving upon his return and giving it a real go to compete for the number one jersey.

Villa fans are not overly enamoured with the Norwegian having made some high-profile errors in the past which have diluted the opinion of the Villa keeper.

The good news from his surgeon will be a starting point to focus on recuperating and recovering before battling to dislodge Kalinic who is Dean Smith’s favoured keeper.

Having Nyland back will hopefully improve Kalinic and the goalkeeper situation at the club full stop.

There is much to do before he is back on the training pitch or even in goal for the starting XI

But Nyland needs to use this positive outcome as motivation to get back and be better than ever once he returns to the fold.
