Fulham midfielder, Kevin McDonald has been made available by the Premier League side, with a number of Championship clubs interested in a deal according to Sky Sports News.

The 30-year-old has only made 11 appearances in all competitions for Fulham this season, and is seemingly well down the pecking order at Craven Cottage.

Since the arrival of Claudio Ranieri, McDonald has managed to play just eight minutes of competitive football, which means his short-term future surely lies elsewhere.

The central-midfielder played a crucial role in the Fulham side that won promotion last season, under Slavisa Jokanovic, but he after summer arrivals, he has struggled for a regular spot in the starting XI.

It remains to be seen as to which Championship clubs are interested in signing McDonald, but Nottingham Forest could certainly benefit from signing him this month.

We look at the reasons why Forest should be targeting the midfielder.

Find out what those reasons are below....

McDonald is proven in the Championship

This would be a risk free signing by Nottingham Forest as it would add further depth to their midfield options for the rest of the season.

McDonald is proven in the Championship after impressing with Fulham last year when they won promotion to the Premier League under Slavisa Jokanovic's guidance.

The 30-year-old made 42 appearances for the play-off winners and would certainly add the winning mentality to this Forest side.

MacDonald would offer quality in depth for O'Neill's side

It's no secret that Nottingham Forest have a number of midfielders already at the club, but there is a lack of quality in those midfield options for Martin O'Neill.

The likes of Ben Watson and Liam Bridcutt can't cut it at Championship level anymore, and they shouldn't have to be relied upon this season as Forest challenge for promotion.

Even if McDonald wasn't to be a regular starter at first, he would be a more than credible option to have on the substitutes bench to provide Forest with an impact coming on.
