Bolton Wanderers' players are still to be paid their outstanding wages for February.

The club are second bottom of the Championship, and this is the third time this season the strugglers have not been paid on time.

With off the field issues with a supposed sale of the club combined with winding up orders and poor results on the pitch, it has made for a pretty soul-destroying campaign.

The Trotters’ players issued a statement condemning Ken Anderson after they were misled over the payment of last month’s salary as they continue their wait further.

And the players must be seething at the situation they find themselves in at present.

To go to work and have to do your best knowing you will not be paid or have not been paid as the case is with Bolton is pretty damaging.

Morale goes, and if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry at the sorry state off affairs the club are in at present.

Despite a crucial win over Millwall last weekend, Bolton are still in the bottom three, and the threat of relegation back to League One is still as real as ever.

The players will do their best to get the results on the pitch, but they need others off it to do theirs.

The EFL want answers on the player’s wage situation with a takeover stalling and prolonging the worry for the staff who’ve yet to be given their money for last month.

There is a need for calm heads to prevail regardless of the situation the club finds himself in.

The players will know that and will be hoping the takeover is completed sooner rather than later.

For the sake of their families, they need this to happen – and to motivate them enough not to be concerned and focus on football it is imperative this happens.
