AFC Wimbledon v Swindon Town: Team and injury news, stats and how to watch the game

Football League World’s Chris Thorpe will be live from Plough Lane on Saturday as AFC Wimbledon play host to Swindon Town in Sky Bet League One, in what is a massive relegation six pointer for both clubs as they bid to beat the drop.

Mark Robinson’s men followed up their recent thrashing of Accrington Stanley with another comfortable victory on home turf last Tuesday as they saw off a play-off chasing Ipswich Town side 3-0 thanks to goals from Will Nightingale, Jack Rudoni and Ryan Longman.

Where as John Sheridan’s side saw their survival hopes take another hit as they fell to a fourth defeat on the trot in the league away to lowly Rochdale, thus seeing the Robins stay in 23rd place at the time of writing.

A victory for Wimbledon this weekend could see the Dons open up a five point gap over the relegation zone if Northampton Town lose to Peterborough United on Friday night, whilst a win on the road for Swindon could see them move level on points with the Cobblers if other results go in their favour during the next round of games.

Team News

Wimbledon will be able to welcome back centre back Ben Heneghan for the game against their relegation rivals, with the towering defender having now served his one match suspension for being sent off against Accrington earlier this month.

This is likely to mean that the former Blackpool man will come in for Paul Kalambayi in the back four, with the latter  having miraculously come through his first 90 minutes since picking up an injury in January to see out the win over Ipswich.

As for Swindon, Ellis Iandolo and Dion Conroy are both likely to miss the rest of the campaign through injury, with Sheridan confirming that both players face a while out on the sidelines.

Therefore the Robins are likely to stick with the same side which lost out to Rochdale at the Crown Oil Arena as they scrap desperately for a win to halt their current slump.

AFC Wimbledon possible starting lineup (4-1-2-1-2):

Tzanev; O’Neill, Heneghan, Nightingale, Guinness-Walker, Dobson, Woodyard, Rudoni, Assal, Palmer, Pigott

Swindon Town possible starting lineup (3-5-2):

Camp; Curran, Grant, Grounds, Caddis, Palmer, Missilou, Payne, Hope, Pitman, Twine

Wimbledon are set to host Swindon for only third time since returning to the Football League, with the last two meetings between the two clubs ending as a draw on both occasions at Kingsmeadow.

The Dons haven’t won three games in a row in League One since way back in October 2019 and will be looking to put that unwanted record right this weekend.

It was the London based club who emerged victorious last time these two sides met, with Joe Pigott heading home from a Luke O’Neill cross for a solid 1-0 win at the County Ground.

Swindon have failed to score in their last three meetings with Wimbledon and last beat the club from SW19 back in January 2012.

Scott Twine will once again prove to be key for the Robins during the run in, with the talented playmaker having been directly involved in eight league goals since returning from his loan spell at Newport County, the most of any player at the club.

How to watch the game?

The match will be available to watch via both club’s respective websites, with iFollow passes costing £10 per person.

Kick-off is 5:30pm.
