Bournemouth have gone up to the Premier League as champions thanks to a 3-0 win at midtable Charlton.
A brace from Matt Ritchie either side of a Harry Arter’s first half finish secured the win for the Cherries, who effectively confirmed promotion with a home win over Bolton Wanderers on Monday night.
Eddie Howe’s side went into the final game knowing that they would have to better Watford’s result to finish top of the table.
It looked like the London side had clinched the title until in the dying moments of their home fixture against Sheffield Wednesday the visitors equalised through Atdhe Nuhiu.
The Bournemouth fans celebrated that goal just as much as the travelling Wednesday fans as the Cherries clinched the title by one point, just a matter of years after nearly falling out of the Football League.
Elsewhere, Brentford and Ipswich claimed the final two playoff places.
Brentford claimed fifth in the League with a 3-0 win over relegated Wigan whereas Ipswich’s goal difference took them over the line, despite losing 3-2 at Blackburn Rovers.
Derby County fell out of the playoffs with an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Reading at the Ipro Stadium.
The Bees will now face Middlesbrough over two legs in an attempt to get to Wembley.
Ipswich meanwhile look forward to facing bitter rivals Norwich City, who moved above Middlesbrough with a 4-2 win over Fulham.
