Adrian Mariappa has recently completed a move to promotion-chasing Bristol City on a short-term deal.

The experienced Jamaican international had previously been on the books with Watford, with the defender spending 11 seasons with the Hornets' first-team in two separate spells with the club.

He made 340 appearances for Watford in total, but didn't have his contract extended at Vicarage Road following their relegation from the Premier League.

Mariappa took to Instagram following his move to Bristol City, and sent a heartwarming message to the Watford supporters after leaving the club.

The 34-year-old joins a Bristol City team that are well in contention to challenge for promotion into the Premier League under the management of Dean Holden.

The Robins are currently sat fifth in the Championship table after their opening 11 matches of this year's campaign, and Mariappa will be hoping he can make a positive impact with his new team.

Mariappa and his Bristol City team-mates are set to return to action after the international break, as they prepare to take on Derby County in a match they'll be expected to pile on the misery for Phillip Cocu's side, who are sat bottom of the second-tier standings.

The Verdict:

It's good to see him wishing his former side well.

Mariappa has been a fantastic servant to Watford over the years, and I was surprised to see him leave the club at the end of last year's campaign.

He's a player that has a considerable amount of experience under his belt as well, and I think this will be a shrewd signing by Bristol City.

If he can settle into life at Ashton Gate quickly, then I expect to see the Robins mounting a serious challenge for promotion into the Premier League.
