Since the turn of the year, Sheffield Wednesday have hauled themselves into the play-off places despite looking off the pace in the first half of the season.

Darren Moore has managed the large squad at his disposal very well to deal with a lengthy injury list and have the Owls as one of the in-form sides in the division, during the run-in.

The expectations are always going to be high with Wednesday in the third tier and given the run they have put together, failing to achieve promotion would be a huge disappointment.

Adrian Clarke gave his thoughts on Wednesday's chances of an immediate return to the Championship when he appeared on The Totally Football League Show.

He said: "They look fit and they look capable.

"Gregory coming back into goalscoring form makes a big difference.

"In the play-offs though, there is a slight concern over them because they're only in the mix because of what they do at Hillsborough.

"Away from home, bang average really, they're actually ranked tenth in the away team table.

"They are the best team on home turf in League One."

A lack of consistency in selection, due to injury issues, can take part of the blame for some of Wednesday's ups and downs this season, though they are still very well placed with six games remaining.

The Verdict

The play-off picture has changed a lot since the turn of the year, with Milton Keynes Dons and Plymouth Argyle putting together excellent runs to seemingly solidify their play-off place along with Wednesday.

Between now and the end of the season it is going to be a case of keeping Wycombe Wanderers, Oxford United and Sunderland at bay for the Owls, to give Darren Moore his first chance of winning promotion via the play-offs of his career.

Barry Bannan continues to set the tone in midfield while Lee Gregory's return has been a hugely welcome one to add some valuable knowhow in tense moments.
