Birmingham City allowed midfielder David Cotterill earlier this week, with manager Steve Cotterill explaining his decision to the club’s official website.

The 30-year-old had struggled for first-team minutes this season despite the Blues languishing at the bottom of the Championship table, and his manager deemed it fit for the player to depart St Andrew’s in order to find action elsewhere.

“David hadn’t played for a while on a regular basis,” Cotterill revealed.

“I had a very mature chat with him at the beginning of the week and we came to that conclusion.

“He now has an opportunity to go and find himself a club in the January transfer window.”

The player had been in the West Midlands for three and a half years after joining from Doncaster Rovers, and was a popular figure amongst fans.
