Charlton Athletic fans will be rightly looking forward to next season as the Addicks look to build on a strong finish to last year in Sky Bet League One.
The men from The Valley eventually fell just short in the play-off race but took it to the wire and will be looking to use that as foundation for a good campaign in 2021/22.
They’ll also be looking to make some decent signings this summer to help them, though, as well as sorting out the futures of several players whose contracts are coming to an end.
Negotiations with the likes of Chuks Aneke, Jake Forster-Caskey, Jason Pearce, Ben Amos and Adam Matthews are all ongoing and, positively for the Addicks, Nigel Adkins has said that they all want to stay.
Quoted by the South London Press, the Charlton boss said:
“They have all said to me they want to stay, which is a big thing.”
Of course, negotiations can go either way and perhaps some players will leave if the offers aren’t good enough but it seems there is a genuine willingness from these key men to remain at The Valley.
Evidently, they believe that next season could be a really good one – they’d have gone by now if they didn’t believe in where Charlton were heading – and that should boost fans’ confidence over the campaign to come, too.
Adkins will be eager to get them tied down to new deals as soon as, then, whilst there’ll also be a hope new faces are going to be arriving sooner rather than later.
