Aden Flint has thanked Sheffield Wednesday supporters on Instagram after it was confirmed on Monday that the defender would be returning to Cardiff City following his short loan spell with the Owls.

Flint moved to Yorkshire with a view to spending the whole campaign at Hillsborough, although a hamstring injury he suffered against Rotherham United back in October has led to Wednesday terminating his loan spell.

The former Bristol City man made the switch on Transfer Deadline Day, but has been restricted to just four appearances in a Wednesday shirt - with the last of those coming in their South Yorkshire derby defeat the New York Stadium more than two months ago.

Following that injury, Flint was forced to undergo surgery, and his return date remains unclear, although the defender will be hoping to play some part in the remainder of Cardiff's season as Neil Harris' side look to get back in contention for the top-six after their recent poor form.

"I would like to thank @swfcofficial for everything, my loan has came to an end, thanks everyone for the kind messages and support over the last couple of months. Back to @cardiffcityfc focus is now on getting back fit ASAP," Flint said on Instagram.

The Verdict

It's safe to say that it hasn't quite worked out for Flint since his departure from Bristol City, and his frustrating loan spell at Hillsborough was more evidence of that.

But whilst it's a blow for Wednesday, hopefully Flint can get himself fit and work his way back into the Harris' Cardiff plans - especially with the Bluebirds currently facing an extreme shortage in the centre-defenders.
