Cardiff are on the verge of making Will Vaulks their first signing of the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The deal is worth a reported £1.5 million, and the Daily Mail suggest it is a move which could be completed within the next 24 hours.

The 25-year-old Wales international has been a key man for Rotherham since signing in 2016, making 137 appearances in a period where The Millers have been relegated twice but also promoted once.

His consistently impressive displays have earned him the Rotherham captaincy, and it is little surprise he has caught the attention of Neil Warnock.

Vaulks signed for Rotherham with a reputation as a solid holding midfielder who excelled in breaking up play. Since then he has added goals to his game, making him a strong box-to-box midfielder.

On top of that, his hard work and determination means he has a winning mentality, and that is what Cardiff need if they are to bounce back to the Premier League.

However, in order to be a key player for Cardiff, Vaulks will need to work on some aspects of his game, particularly on the ball. Last season his pass success rate was just 64% and he average 0.4 dribbles per game.

Our writers discuss the move and share their views on whether he will be a good signing for Cardiff.

Toby Wilding

"This could be a good signing for Cardiff.

"Vaulks showed last season that he is more than capable at Championship level, and it no surprise to see interest in him following Rotherham's relegation back to League One.

"Holding off a number of other interested sides would therefore be a big boost to Cardiff's hopes of pushing for promotion next season, and you would expect Vaulks' hunger and ability on the pitch to contribute to that as well should he make the move to Wales."

Chris Gallagher

"This would be a great signing.

"Vaulks is a typical Neil Warnock player and should be able to fit into the team with ease. He is a good, hardworking player and the Bluebirds need new midfielders.

"Last season the Wales international shone with Rotherham proving he can play at this level, so for a relatively modest fee this makes a lot of sense for Cardiff."

Kealan Hughes

"Vaulks could be a very useful addition.

"He is a natural ball winner and therefore adds something different to the Cardiff squad, whilst acting as a like-for-like replacement for the departing Aron Gunnarsson.

"If he can contribute a similar amount of goals and assists that he did last season then he will also provide a threat from midfield which players like Joe Ralls and Harry Arter couldn't do last season."
