Chelsea’s close links with Swindon Town have seen a number of promising young stars head west to Wiltshire, and one player to spend time with the Robins last season was 20-year-old midfielder Charlie Colkett.

The influential player captained Chelsea’s youth side to numerous glories in the most successful spell in the academy's history, winning the FA Youth Cup and the UEFA Youth League twice.

Colkett has a contract with the Premier League Champions that runs to 2019, and with manager Antonio Conte set to spend big in the transfer window again, the Newham born youngster looks set for another loan move to continue his impressive development.

Colkett spent the whole season in League One last season with Bristol Rovers and then Swindon, and was a key performer for both sides.

With a year of third tier football under his belt, a move to the Championship seems the next logical step for the youngster, who has the ability to compete at the higher level.

One club who may be interested in a loan deal for Colkett is fellow west Londoners Brentford, who have a knack of developing young central midfielders into solid Championship players.

Having taken Middlesbrough’s Adam Forshaw, former Chelsea youngster John Swift, and former Spurs midfielder Alex Pritchard on loan at Griffin Park, all three players have gone on to play either in the Premier League or at the top of the Championship.

The Bees are a fantastic club with an excellent management team, and young Colkett will know he can seriously develop his game at Brentford, while being just a short ride from his parent club.

Brentford will push for a top six finish this season after establishing themselves as a solid Championship side over the past few seasons, and adding Colkett to the squad would add another option in what is set to be a demanding season in the very competitive Sky Bet Championship.
