Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United side missed out on promotion this season due to a play-off loss to Derby County over two legs, but with a few signings next season they can seriously challenge for promotion and right the wrongs of this campaign.

One of the reasons for their 2019 misfortunes was a poor January transfer window, where Leeds narrowly missed out on the signing of Dan James from Swansea; a player who is now set to join Manchester United.

One player they have been linked with is Portsmouth's star man Jamal Lowe, who has scored goals for fun from the wing in League One this season. Another option they could use is to recall Doncaster loanee Mallik Wilks, who excelled under Grant McCann this term.

Both players strangely lost in the playoff semi-final for their respective team, but that doesn't mean they aren't good enough for the Championship.

Leeds' wing problem is well documented, with Jack Harrison often the only recognised winger starting.

Jack Clarke has done an excellent job off the bench, but the feeling is that the burden of starting every week is too much for the 18-year-old to shoulder.

With Manchester City reportedly demanding £20m for Jack Harrison, who spent the season on loan at the Whites, it feels like Bielsa must turn elsewhere.

Harrison was unplayable on his day, with a great eye for a cross (as demonstrated in the first leg v Derby), good dribbling skills and astute technical talents, but despite this it felt like he was too inconsistent.

Another problem was his lack of goals, he scored just four times in the league - Wilks and Lowe will bring goals in abundance.

In an era where wing play is dominating the top flight - Sane and Sterling or Salah and Mane for example - these two would be crucial to Bielsa's style and they could give Leeds goals that have been lacking, with the strikers often having to shoulder the goalscoring burden.

Wilks scored 14 and assisted eight, while Lowe scored 15 and assisted a further nine - in brief, they know where the goal is.

Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion this season for a number of reasons, not having enough goals from across the park was certainly one of them. Wilks will cost nothing to keep around, while Lowe will cost a few million max, meaning Leeds would get two quality wingers for peanuts.

They would add 29 goals to the team, which could give Bielsa's men a real edge next season.
