Adam Przybek was the hero on his Ipswich Town debut last night, as the Tractor Boys booked their place in the last 16 of the EFL Trophy with a penalty shootout victory over Peterborough United.

The 19-year-old was making his first appearance for the Tractor Boys since joining the club in the summer and pulled of a couple of impressive saves during the 1-1 draw at London Road.

Ipswich took the lead midway through the first half through Idris El Mizouni, but Peterborough equalised before half-time with Ricky-Jade Jones' third goal of the season.

That's how it stayed and the game went to penalties, where Przybek pulled off two smart saves to deny Peterborough's Siriki Dembele and Frankie Kent, allowing Barry Cotter to win it for the Tractor Boys and seal their place in tonight's draw for the next round.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, Przybek has reflected on his penalty shootout heroics and was pleased with his performance on his debut, but he also insisted that he must keep working hard if he's to get more opportunities in the team.

He said: "I was on loan last year in the EvoStick and saved two, so I wondered if I could be the hero again and thankfully I was.

"I'm glad we're into the next round because hopefully it gives me another opportunity to be in contention.

"At the moment I've got two great keepers ahead of me so I've just got to keep working and see where it takes me. I know I haven't done anything and I've got to keep working hard."

The Verdict

Przybek has had to wait a long time to make his debut for Ipswich and I'm sure he'll be absolutely delighted with how it went. He pulled off a couple of impressive saves during the game and then was excellent in the penalty shootout too.

He probably isn't going to get a chance for Ipswich in League One this season ahead of Tomas Holy or Will Norris, but his performance last night has certainly given Paul Lambert something to think about.

As he says, he's just got to keep working hard and now that Ipswich are through to the next round of the EFL Trophy, there's every chance that he could keep his place in the starting line-up in the competition.
