Leeds United kept their promotion hopes in their own hands on Wednesday evening, as they ran out narrow 1-0 winners over relegation-threatened Middlesbrough at the Riverside.

Mateusz Klich scored the only goal of the game shortly before half-time, as he finished clinically after a swift counter-attacking move from Marcelo Bielsa's side.

The Whites are now sat second in the Championship table, and are four points adrift of league-leaders West Brom, who beat Preston North End 24 hours before Leeds beat Boro.

But more importantly, Leeds are still five points clear of third-placed Fulham in the second-tier standings, and they'll be confident of extending their advantage over Scott Parker's side as the season progresses.

One player who hasn't had a chance to play much of a part in Leeds' promotion push is midfielder Adam Forshaw, who has been sidelined through injury for much of this year's campaign.

The 28-year-old has only made eight appearances in total for the Whites this term, and it remains to be seen if he'll play for Bielsa's side again this season.

Forshaw took to Instagram to praise his team-mates for their performance against his former club, and labelled the win as a 'big result'.

Leeds return to action on Saturday when they take on struggling Hull City at the KCOM Stadium in a game they'll be expected to pick up another win from.

The Verdict:

This could prove to be a crucial win for the Whites.

I'm yet to be convinced that they're playing their best football in recent weeks, but the fact that they're still picking up wins says a lot about the character of this Leeds team.

If they can get back to their best, then I think it's only a matter of time before they are to put four or five goals past a team in the Championship this season.

Forshaw has been a good player to have in their team when available, but I'm not sure he has a long-term future with the club given his recent injury problems.
