Stoke City's Harry Souttar scored twice for Australia on his Socceroos debut last night, rounding off what has been an impressive first two months of the season for the defender.

The Australian national side defeated Nepal by five goals to nil in their World Cup qualifying campaign on Wednesday night, with Souttar scoring the game's third and fourth goal.

Souttar has been hugely impressive on loan with Fleetwood Town in the opening stages of the season, making 11 appearances for the League One side and playing an integral role in helping Joey Barton's side climb to third spot in the table.

The defender has made only two senior appearances for Stoke since arriving from Dundee United in 2017, and he will be hoping to continue impressing on loan at Highbury as he looks to break into Nathan Jones' first-team at the bet365 Stadium.

Another player Stoke have sent out on loan - Bolton's Thibaud Verlinden, as well as Potters shot-stopper Adam Federici have both reacted to Souttar's brace for Australia.

Stoke picked up their first win of the season against Swansea City last time out, and they will be looking to secure back-to-back wins against Fulham after the international break.

The Verdict

Souttar has enjoyed a fantastic first two months of the season on loan at Fleetwood, and things just seem to be getting better and better for him.

Making your international debut, let alone scoring two goals on it, is a massive achievement and something that he should be proud of.

If he keeps working hard, he'll be in the Stoke team in no time.
