Stoke City goalkeeper Adam Davies has admitted that he doesn't regret his decision to move to the club last summer despite his lack of game time this season.

A stand-out performer for Barnsley in the previous campaign, the 27-year-old helped the Yorkshire-based outfit achieve promotion from League One by keeping 19 clean-sheets in 42 appearances.

Instead of opting to commit his future to the Tykes, Davies decided to join Stoke on a free transfer.

Whilst the shot-stopper would have been wanting to compete with Jack Butland for a place in the Potters' starting eleven, he temporarily slipped below Adam Federici in the pecking order at the bet365 Stadium during the opening months of the season.

However, following a relatively impressive display for Stoke in their FA Cup clash with Brentford in January, Davies has been included in the club's match-day squad on a regular basis by manager Michael O'Neill.

Although he has yet to make an appearance in the Championship, the Wales international may be given the opportunity to impress if Butland's form deteriorates over the coming weeks.

Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke (as cited by the Stoke Sentinel) about whether he regrets his move to the Potters, Davies said: "No, you never a regret a decision.

"It was a great decision for me to work with some great coaches; the first half of the season with Andy (Quy) and the new goalie coach coming in (David Rouse), it's been great.

"I've learned a lot but I do want to play football matches, I'll keep working hard and then see what happens.

The shot-stopper later added: "I'm always ready if needed.

"We just want to stay in the league, that's the main focus for the whole group."

The Verdict

Whereas Davies would have been wanting to make a lasting impression during his debut season with Stoke, he has yet to prove why he deserve a chance to play in the Championship on a regular basis.

Given that Butland has stepped up his performances following a slump in form, the former Barnsley man may be forced to watch on from the sidelines for the rest of the campaign.

However, Davies could be called into action if his team-mate picks up an injury or a suspension in the coming months.

Therefore, it is imperative that the shot-stopper maintains his focus as he could end up playing a key role in Stoke's battle for survival in the second-tier.
