Kemar Roofe has been named as whoscored.comâs Sky Bet Championship Player of the Week, following his goalscoring heroics in Leeds Unitedâs victory over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Saturday afternoon.
The 24-year-old bagged his second hat-trick of the season for Leeds, and first treble in the Championship, as he stepped in for the injured Caleb Ekuban magnificently at Loftus Road to help Thomas Christiansenâs side to a 3-1 victory.
Roofe scored a looping header from Ezgjan Alioskiâs hanging cross to put Leeds into the lead, before neatly finishing a Pawel Cibicki delivery shortly afterwards.
Despite QPR handing Leeds a late fright, Roofe completed his hat-trick late in injury-time to round off an impressive afternoonâs work.
The forward has now been rewarded for his goalscoring heroics, with whoscored.com naming Roofe as their Championship Player of the Week, ahead of the likes of Leon Clarke and Patrick Bamford, with a 9.42 rating out of 10.
Roofeâs treble on Saturday took his tally for the season to nine goals across all competitions, and six in the Championship.
Ekubanâs injury handed Roofe another chance to impress as the focal point of Leedsâ attack, and with his 23-year-old teammate expected to be facing a lengthy spell out, he could be in-line for an extended run.
The Verdict
Roofe is more than deserving of this accolade, as his clinical performance at Loftus Road proved to be the difference between Leeds and QPR.
The 24-year-old has often come in for criticism during his 18 months at Elland Road, but his form when selected in the number nine role this season has been remarkable.
Leedsâ supporters will be encouraged.
