Not even halfway through the year, the current campaign has been a real rollercoaster for Leeds United fans, with the Whites dishing up their usual serving of drama during the early stages of the 2017/18 Championship season.

Thomas Christiansen’s side started in electric fashion, setting the early pace at the summit of the table, with a good run including a miraculous penalty shoot-out win over Burnley in the Carabao Cup, a real confidence booster for the fans following star men Charlie Taylor and Chris Wood’s transfers to the Clarets in the summer.

The club then hit a barren run of form which saw them plummet down the league table, with a feisty win over former boss Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough putting an end to the horrid slump.

Looking to be back on track and on course for a playoff spot, Leeds have returned to their former selves, with a number of players recapturing the form shown towards the beginning of Christiansen’s reign.

However, who has been the pick of the bunch for the Whites this season?

We take a look at Leeds’ three best performers so far this season…

Number Three: Kalvin Phillips

Thee 22-year-old academy graduate has appeared in all but one of Leeds’ league matches this season, and has been one of the most consistent performers in Christiansen’s side.

Phillips maintained his performance level through the club’s difficult spell, and his impressive tally of five goals and two assists from the middle of the park are just reward for his efforts on the field.

Phillips has been criticised for his discipline this term, having amassed eight yellow cards already this semester, but many will look upon this stat with a positive outlook.

Leeds need a player who is not afraid to get stuck in and raise the atmosphere on the terraces, and with the youngster yet to be dismissed, Phillips has shown a real awareness of understanding when enough is enough.

A future Leeds captain, Phillips is up there with the best this season.

Number Two: Ezgjan Alioski

The Macedonian was picked up from Swiss minnows Lugano in the summer after scoring sixteen times in the Swiss Super League in just a single season, and has taken to British football like a fish to water.

Alioski’s form waived slightly during the barren run of results, but the 25-year-old continued to find the back of the net and provide assists, with his season total standing at an impressive five goals and four assists in only nineteen appearances.

The step up to this level from his previous club was significant, but Alioski has proven his adaptability since his arrival.

If the winger continues at his current rate than he will easily surpass a combined twenty goals and assists for the season, which could be enough to secure Leeds a playoff spot.

A real gem of a find, fans love what the Eastern European brings to the table at Elland Road.

Number One: Samuel Saiz

What an incredible find this 26-year-old has proven to be, and the scouting team at Elland Road must be applauded for identifying his talent before other clubs swooped.

Picked up from the Spanish second division in the summer for just over £3 million, the former Real Madrid trainee has proven a real bargain, and is undoubtedly Leeds’ star performer this term.

A tricky playmaker with a wonderful range of passing, Saiz has already amassed five goals and five assists this term, more than justifying his summer price tag.

With a passing accuracy just shy of 80%, Saiz’s stats back up just what a remarkable first year in English football the player is having, with the former Spanish youth international dragging his side through a difficult run of results earlier in the season.

Saiz’s value has shot up since his arrival in West Yorkshire, and Christiansen will be able to demand a huge sum should Premier League and Spanish top-flight clubs come calling.

Saiz is the undisputed number one performer at Leeds United so far this season.
