Will Grigg signed for Sunderland on deadline day of the January 2019 transfer window in what was a last minute deal to replace the departing Josh Maja, who had an excellent first half of the season.

Grigg, who had excelled in the few seasons he spent at Wigan, looked a great signing for the Black Cats.

He failed to live up to expectations, scoring just four League One goals in his 20 appearances since his move (including the play-offs).

It’s been a poor season to say the least, but how would you sum up his season if you could use just one word?

We debate…

Jacob Potter

"Abysmal.

"I really thought that Sunderland had solved their lack of goals in attack when they signed Grigg on Deadline Day in January.

"But he’s really struggled since signing for Jack Ross’ men, and his lack of goals is certainly a factor in why they weren’t promoted back into the Championship.

"He can’t do any worse next season surely?"

George Brooks

"Disappointing.

"Grigg scored a few goals for Wigan during the first half of the campaign, but will probably feel he should have scored more.

"He arrived at the Stadium of Light in January with big expectations and was expected to score the goals to fire Sunderland back to the Championship, but he failed to deliver.

"I'm sure the striker will feel himself that he could have done better and will be looking to improve ahead of next season."

Lewis Steele

"Poor.

"Losing Josh Maja in January was a big blow for the Black Cats, but I thought Will Grigg was a great replacement.

"He has failed to deliver though, and has been a huge let down.

"With a summer off, he must work to put it right next season."
